(July 27, 2016) An evening dedicated to literature with a special guest at the Italian Cultural Institute of Stockholm. From August 23 at 18:00 Claudio Magris’s most recent book ‘Non luogo a procedere’ will be presented at the ICI headquarters. Magris is the winner of premio Strega of 1997 and Kafka Award this year. He will talk with Mikael Timm about his latest release published in Swedish by the publisher ‘Forum’. The encounter will be in English. Writer, German studies scholar and Italian senator (in the 12th legislature). Magris taught German literature at the University of Turin and then Trieste. Since a young age he has been known to critics with the myth of Habsburg in modern Austrian literature (1963, university thesis). He was among the first to re-evaluate the Jewish uniting thread within mitteleuropean literature, with ‘Lontano da dove’ (Far from where), Joseph Roth and the oriental-jewish tradition (1971). Danube (1986) is considered to be his masterpiece and makes him one of the best contemporary Italian writers. With this recent book, he won the Bagutta Award in 1986 and then the Premio Strega in 1997 with his novel ‘Microcosmi’ (Microcosms) and Principe delle Austrie Award in 2004 in the literature section and in 1999 he won the Chiara Award and Giuseppe Acerbi Literary Award, special prize for essay-writing.
