(21 settembre 2016) From October 6 to November 3, the Italian Institute of Culture in Sydney hosts the exhibition of Piero Addis titled “Blue Codes blue”. The exhibition, curated by David Galloway, offers ten works created especially for the Australian event. The “Blue Codes” can be traced back to the tradition of the sketchbooks in which travelling artists recorded their impressions throughout the centuries. Like Addis, Tiepolo was a traveller who worked on commission, producing some of his finest frescos not only in Italy, but also in Würzburg and Madrid. The colour blue is a central element of these works, raising the viewer’s gaze above the dull everyday world and directing it towards the sky. The title Blue Codes refers to the flights the artist took in the last years: “LH3959” refers to a flight from Milan to Frankfurt, “AF511” Damascus-Paris, “SU279” Moscow-Milan. During these flights the artist took photos of the sky from the window of the plane. He then blended those photos with “heavenly” scenes from Tiepolo’s paintings. The ten artworks, printed in gicleé and lined in linen, represent a sort of digital rococò, modern but deeply rooted in esthetic tradition. The exhibition, organized by the Institute of Culture in collaboration with Boga Foundation – DHL International, will be inaugurated on October 6 at 18 at the artist’s presence. (Red)
