(3 October, 2016) One of the key successes of Italian design after the war was thinking about the industrial product as a cultural one. This humanistic aspect is expressed through the rising Italian industry and the generation of designers that emerged from the war: a generation of intellectuals trying to change things. The conference “The Human Side” is dedicated to the relationship between design and industry (with examples such as Ettore Sottsass for Olivetti, Gaetano Pesce for Cassina, Gio Ponti for Olivari). The conference takes place October 11 at 19:00 at the Italian Cultural Institute of Hamburg and will be chaired by the architect Francesca Picchi and moderated by Veronica Scortecci (in Italian with simultaneous interpretation in German). Francesca Picchi is an architect and journalist. From 1996 to 2012, she was the editor of the international journal “Domus”. She is also curator of design exhibitions, among which is “Enzo Mari. Il lavoro al centro” (Enzo Mari. The work at the centre) for the Milan Triennale in 1999. She participated at the Venice Biennale of Architecture with a research project on Italian industry. (Red)
