Pisa – Pisa and Tuscany at the top of nanotechnology research: one of the 5 existing single electron detectors in the world is operating at the Center for Nanotechnology Innovation at the Italian Institute of Technology in Pisa. 50% of the cost was co-financed by the Region thanks to the Por Fesr 2014-2020 funds. The instrument, a new, highly sensitive electronic diffraction detector capable of measuring the passage of a single electron, is installed on an electronic transmission microscope (TEM) and will serve to gather information about the atomic structure of materials that form nanometric crystals, 10 million times smaller than a millimeter.
