(30 April 2018) The exhibition will be open until Monday, May 14th. The inauguration of the exhibition will be preceded by a round table on “Being honest, a philosophy of migration has not yet been written” which will be attended by Aylin Nazlıaka, an independent Member of Parliament; Fabrizio Paolilli, First Secretary and Councilor for EU Policies of the Italian Embassy in Ankara; Vittorio Urbani, curator of the exhibition and art critic; Besim Can Zırh, Assistant Professor and Vice President of the Department of Sociology of the Middle East Technical University (METU); as well as representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Organised by the “Nuova Icona” Cultural Association for the Arts in Venice with the support of the Italian Embassy in Ankara and the Municipality of Cankaya, the exhibition documents the migration phenomenon that is affecting the Mediterranean Sea and the Italian coasts. Aziz’s photographs are the result of numerous trips to Sicily and they show the various phases of rescue operations, including the most tragic moments of the transport of migrants in safe conditions, and the daily life and the women, children, and young people’s faces full of hope in hospitals where they receive health care.
