Mar. 18 – The Palestinian village of Aboud, near Ramallah, inaugurated a small winery with the help of Trentino. To encourage the return of grape growing and wine production in this region, in spite of the numerous difficulties, the Salesian Cremisan cellar in Beit Jalla has revived, with the support of the Mach Foundation, the “wine of Cana,” which is gaining increasing consensus on the market. The opening ceremony was also attended by the President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Alberto Pacher, who had already begun to follow the project when he was mayor of Trento. He was accompanied by the provincial councilor Michele Nardelli, the Palestinian Authority’s representative in Italy, Ali Rashid, the president of the Pravis winery, Mario Zambarda, also there on behalf of the Fertile Crescent Association, and father Ibrahim Faltas, former keeper of the Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem and today responsible for the custody of the Holy Land. Father Ibrahim Faltas accompanied the delegation who also introduced president Pacher to the John Paul II Foundation in Bethlehem, where, among others, Italian language courses for Palestinian students are held.
