May 3 – Brazil will be the next stage of the internationalization program sponsored by the Regional Wines and Oils of Sicily, a project designed to promote worldwide the excellence of wine “Born in Sicily”. After India, Scandinavia and Hong Kong, Sicilian wineries fly overseas to Sao Paulo to find the most qualified professionals. “The wine market in Brazil – says Lucio Monte, head of IRVOS’ scientific-technical department – is growing. Wine consumption is increasing in parallel with economic growth and purchasing power. The time is right for Sicilian companies that want to export to Brazil. The rise of wine culture over the past five years has brought an increase in the consumption of imported wine, considered more valuable by the privileged classes and the new middle class. Italian-styled products, be it wine, design, fashion… has a particular appeal to Brazilian consumers. We need to offer a product with a strong identity and great variety and quality. Sicilian wine fits this description and can conquer this market.” On Wednesday, May 8th there will be a seminar, conducted by Christian Burgos of the Adega Group addressed to Sicilian producers, to show the evolution and dynamics of the Brazilian market. In the afternoon, there will be two Master classes on Sicilian wines: cellar every participant will propose their top wines for tasting. Both seminars will be held by Arthur Azevedo, president of the Brazilian Sommelier Association. On this occasion, as in the previous missions abroad, tastings will be offered to the press, importers, restaurateurs, wine and opinion leaders in the market.
