Sept. 20 – “Work to ensure the responsible long-term development, fully aware of the links and interactions between your economic, social and environmental impacts, and of the repercussions that a decision in one of these areas exerts on the remaining ones” says the Code of Ethics approved by Pirelli in 2003 and provided to all affiliates of the group. And these are not only words: Pirelli has earned many awards in the field of sustainability, the latest being the inclusion in the new sustainability index “Global Compact 100,” launched by the Global Compact of the United Nations (a global forum sponsored in 1999 by the Secretary General of the UN, Kofi Annan, to encourage Corporate Social Responsibility) in collaboration with Sustainalytics. The “Global Compact 100” index is made up of 100 companies selected on the basis of their consistency with the guiding principles of the Global Compact, management’s commitment to sustainability issues and level of profitability. Pirelli is the only tire manufacturer among the other 100 companies. These companies, whose stock market performance was monitored by the Global Compact in the last three years, have outperformed the FTSE All World stock for the past two years, posting an increase in profits of 26.4 % over the past year. Pirelli was also recently confirmed (for the seventh consecutive year) world leader in ATX Auto Components of the Dow Jones Sustainability World and Dow Jones Sustainability Europe indices, with 85 points compared to an industry average of 51 points.
