(Aug 4) Parking problems at the airport or train station? Soon they will be just a memory. In the future, our car will park itself thanks to an autonomous system. This is the project on which are currently working researchers from Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the UK, and for which positive tests were carried out earlier this year at the Stuttgart airport. The Italian participation in the project was represented by the Department of Information Engineering from the University of Parma, of which is member Professor Alberto Broggi, Director of the RFID & Vis-Labs laboratory (interdepartmental center on radio frequency identification technology and artificial vision). The EU has invested 5.6 million Euros in the system, which will be available in the next few years. In the future, in fact, more people will drive electric cars and will switch between transportation modes, hence the need to increase the number and range of parking options in transport hubs. To prepare for this evolution of mobility, the V-Charge consortium is working on a fully automated system for parking and charging electric cars in public car parks. (red)
