(Aug. 20) Another prestigious international award for the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia: a librarian at the University of Emilia, an expert in bibliometrics, received the attention of the international scientific journal Nature for his contribution to the monograph “Beyond Bibliometrics: Harnessing Multidimensional Indicators of Scholarly Impact” (MIT Press, 2014). Dr. Nicola De Bellis, coordinator of the Bibliometric Office of the University’s Library Service. “Bibliometrics – explains De Bellis – is the quantitative study of scientific communication conducted mainly through its products: publications and bibliographies. In recent years, bibliometric indicators have officially entered Italian evaluation exercises, taking a leading role in the debate on the criteria to verify the quality of research produced by individuals, groups and institutions. The more technical matters, such as the calculation of standardized indicators, are accompanied by a number of useful examples to develop the practical skills needed to work with bibliometric data.” De Bellis also contributed to the publication “Introduzione alla bibliometria: dalla teoria alla pratica” of the “Percorsi” series by the Italian Library Association.
