Brussels – The European Commission has approved the registration application for two new protected designations of origin products. Representing Italy, there is the “Torrone di Bagnara” (PGI), a crisp and crunchy nougat obtained by cooking and processing honey, sugar and toasted almonds, cinnamon and cloves, all covered in granulated sugar or unsweetened cocoa. This nougat is produced in the town of Bagnara, in the province of Reggio Calabria. In addition to its unique ingredient combination, the Torrone di Bagnara also has particular organoleptic characteristics, which result from the perfect balance of the ingredients and the system with which they are cooked: at high temperatures. Representing Spain, there is the “Jamón de Serón” (PGI), ham made from pig of large size. Both new certified products join the other 1,200 already protected delicacies, a list of which is available on the Door database. (9Colonne)
