Sept. 3 – “Italy and China’s specific experiences provide an excellent opportunity to compare the motivation and manner of foreign intervention in the name of peace,” said Andrea del Guttry, professor of International Law at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa. The professor is once again at the center of an international experience on human rights. The collaboration between the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna and Chinese universities and institutions focuses on peacekeeping operations that see both countries involved. Political motivations, values, personnel training, and the human rights violations that might be committed by a limited number of men are some of the topics covered in “China’s and Italy’s Participation in Peacekeeping Operations – Existing Models, Emerging Challenges.” Lexington Books recently published the volume, edited by Andrea de Guttry, Emanuele Sommario (researcher in International Law at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna) and Lijiang Zhu, a professor at the China University of Political Science and Law. The presentation has been set for September 9 in Beijing, at the China Institute of International Studies, with the participation of Andrea de Guttry and Alberto Bradanini, Italian ambassador to China, along with teachers and representatives of Chinese institutions. The book contains twenty contributions from academics, international civil servants, senior military officers and field experts, and it features a preface by Romano Prodi, reconstructing the stages that led Italy and China to engage in international peace-keeping missions.
