Nov. 18 – “Luminous phenomena have fascinated mankind since prehistoric times: just think of the rainbow, a sunset over the sea, a game of shadows. We have always used the light to our needs, but light is so much more than what we can see with our naked eyes: it extends to all wave lengths of the electromagnetic spectrum: it’s visible and invisible.” Explains Professor Olmes Bisi of University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. Three years after his essay on the wonders of light phenomena was first published under the title “Visibile e Invisibile. Le meraviglie dei fenomeni luminosi” (Ed. Sironi, 2011), it is now being translated and published into English. The volume, has been well received by the Italian scientific community, was very popular with non-experts, and the publishing hose Springer decided to release an English edition, “Visible and Invisible, the Wonders of Light Phenomena.” The text consists of 314 pages and 282 color illustrations, and is also available for digital download for eBook and myCopy. The paper narrates light phenomena of light described in physical, biophysical, astronomical, technological and historical terms avoiding overly-complicated jargon. (Gil)
