Jan. 27 – Vinitaly International, the platform created by Veronafiere to promote the excellence of Italian wine in the world, kicks off the new year with two academic meetings organized in New York and Toronto. The Vinitaly International Academy enters its the second year of operation, after an intensive promotional tour around the world with its Executive Wine Seminars with the support of Stevie Kim, Managing Director of Vinitaly International, and the scientific director of the Vinitaly International Academy, Ian D’Agata. Today’s event in New York sees the Vinitaly International Academy engaged in “A Study in Sangiovese”, an Executive Wine Seminar held at the New York Vintners, to present three labels of five different Italian wineries. Among the precious rarities from different estates, the wine list includes the Chianti Rufina Montesodi 1974 produced by the Frescobaldi family, the Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia of Fèlsina and three of its most historical vintages, and Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico with the vintages of 1979 and 1983, which have often been referred to as “good” but not “exceptional”: a huge mistake that the tasting wants to correct. The workshop will be a unique opportunity to learn about Sangiovese in a tailor-made event for a mature market like the US, where Italian wine continues to hold the lead. During the seminar, D’Agata will explain the subtle differences of the wines, due to small differences in the land in which the grapes are cultivated. “A Study of Sangiovese” aims to analyze an amazing selection of 15 wines from Italian soil and different vintages, from 1974 to 2001. But the real news of 2015 will be the first edition of Vinitaly International in Canada. Tomorrow and on January 29 Toronto, the economic engine and most populous center of the country, will host a second series of tastings brought by the Vinitaly International Academy. Vinitaly will continue on February 2 in New York during the Italian Wine Week organized by the Italian Trade Agency, and the presentation of the Pavilion “Wine – A Taste of Italy”, also in New York, during the Gala Italia of the Italian Wine & Food Institute on February 19.
