Apr. 16 – “We are happy and proud to represent Italy at the Cannes Film Festival. We are aware that it is a great opportunity for us and for Italian cinema. Our films, each in its own way, take on a personal look on reality and cinema; we hope that our presence in Cannes will be a stimulus for many other Italian directors to seek less obvious and conventional paths,” comment Matteo Garrone, Nanni Moretti and Paolo Sorrentino. The three Italian directors were selected to take part in the Cannes competition – respectively with “Tale of Tales,” “Mia madre” and “Youth – La Giovinezza.” This is the first time in 20 years it that three Italian films are competing for the Palme d’Or. “The decision of the Cannes Film Festival to select three Italian films – said the Minister of Heritage, Cultural Activities and Tourism, Dario Franceschini -. rewards our cinema, which is looking and communicating with the world as it did in the post-war and economic boom years. It’s also interesting that two of the three selected titles has the support of Mibact, which testifies to the taste of the Italian Film Commission. Italy is in Cannes also in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section, with “Louisiana. (The Other Side)” by Roberto Minervini, also supported by Mibact. Now all we have to do is watch and enjoy the show, supporting Garrone, Moretti, Sorrentino, and Minervini.” (Red)
