Berlin – The European project “High Profile” (HIGH-throughput Production of FunctIonaL 3D ImagEs of the brain) has been awarded the important “Artemis Award 2015”, accepted by Project Leader Frank van der Linden (Philips). The ceremony took place in the course of “Artemis & Wall of Fame Recognition Award 2015,” recently held in Berlin. The University of Palermo is a partner of the European Project, funded by the Artemis Joint Undertaking, an industry association that aims to meet the challenges and achieve the goals set by the European industry by defining and implementing a research agenda in the field of Integrated Systems. Within the project, Alessandro Busacca and Constantino Giaconia, operating within the Department of Energy, Information Technology and Mathematical Models, have studied fNIRS techniques (functional Near InfraRed Spectroscopy) applied to optical and non-invasive monitoring of brain activity, with the goal of identifying changes in brain oxygenation in matching sensory stimuli.
