Erbil – The visit to Italy and the requests made by Monsignor Bashar Warda, Chaldean Archbishop in Erbil, for 13.000 displaced families assisted in his diocese since June 2014 haven’t go unheard. The President of the CEI has decided to finance, with a budget of $1.237,400 dollars (drawn from the funds of the 8xMille) three projects: the provision of housing for displaced families from the plains of Nineveh ($ 375,000); four wells in Erbil for refugees from Mosul and Nineveh ($214,400); and the construction of a school for the refugees still in Erbil ($652,000). Moreover, the Italian Caritas, with a $975,000 commitment, will ensure food for the month of August to 13,000 displaced families “There is a sentence that, since I heard it from the refugee families a few months ago, I could never forget – explains the general secretary of the CEI, Monsignor Nunzio Galantino – We are persecuted, make it so that we are not abandoned. This is our commitment as an Italian Church, both in prayer and with solidarity initiatives”. (9colonne)
