Washington – The discovery is the result of a fruitful international collaboration between different observers in Ireland, Italy and the USA, with the important contribution of the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Siena, who collected the data needed to characterize the star GSC 5065-0218. Located in the constellation of Ophiuchus, it is now known to be an Algol-type double star, with two components well separated from each other, a period of revolution of 1.20553 days and a significant variation in brightness. The data collected at the University of Siena, in the person of Alessandro Marchini, was corroborated by that of Mike Folyan – Irish astronomer who works with members of the Variable Star Section of the Italian Amateur Astronomers Union – and those of Brian Warner, director of the Palmer Divide Observatory in Colorado. The data analysis was coordinated by Riccardo Papini and Fabio Salvaggio of the Variable Star Section of the Italian Amateur Astronomers Union. (9Colonne)
