October 2nd, 2015 – The United States and the United Kingdom continue to monopolize the world podium in the university ranking of the British magazine “Times Higher Education”, with the California Institute of Technology, Oxford and Standord in first, second and third position, respectively. However, Italy holds its own and shows encouraging signs, with three universities at the top of the global ranking: Normale and Sant’Anna in Pisa, and Trento are among the top 25%, followed by Bologna, the Milan Polytechnic, and the Sapienza University of Rome. Of the 34 Italian universities that made it into the ranking, the Normale ranks first, followed by the Sant’Anna, confirming that Italian “schools of excellence” come from Tuscany. These are some of the findings that emerge from a first analysis of the World University Rankings by the British magazine “Times Higher Education” published on September 30th. Training, research, publications and citations, the ability to attract funds, technology transfers, and internationalization are the main categories considered in the ranking, which compared to the 2014 edition has doubled the number of institutions inspected (800 in total) and the number of countries in which they are distributed (70). The ranking is considered by analysts one of the most trusted and respected for its methodology and control values. (Red)
