Texas – Claudia Marino is a PhD candidate in the international bio-medical and neuroscience doctoral program of the University of Palermo (coordinated by Professor Felicia Farina). The scientist recently won both the “Zelda Zinn Casper Scholars Endowment Scholarship” and the “Arthur V. Simmang Scholarship”, for a total of $30,000, thanks to the results obtained thus far in her doctoral thesis. Marino answered the two competitive calls of the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, where she is spending an 18-month period provided for in the internationalization program of her PhD course. Marino will use the funding for her research, self-financing scientific missions, participation in conferences, purchasing books, and covering the costs of publications. Marino’s research, which sees the contribution of the Institute of Biophysics of the Palermo CNR coordinated by Pier Luigi San Biagio, concerns the role of the Hsp60 mitochondrial chaperone in Alzheimer’s. Her studies fall under broader research on chaperonopaties of the nervous system carried out by Francesco Cappello in the Section of Human Anatomy within the Department of Experimental Biomedicine and Clinical Neurosciences (BIONEC) in collaboration with other international groups.
