(29 January 2016) In times of terrorism and conflict between Islam and the West, Lisbon responds by devoting an entire week to Interfaith Harmony. Organized by the city of Lisbon in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute, the week will be officially inaugurated on Monday, February 1 with a klezmer music concert entitled “Night of Freedom” by the Stellerranti Ensemble. To be held in the magnificent Hall of Mirrors of Palácio Foz, one of the 18th century royal residences, the “Night of Freedom” offers a musical journey in pure klezmer style, inspired by the central themes of Passover, the end of slavery and the conquest of freedom. Set in a fictional ghetto cabaret, the Geto Kabarett refers to the many open places in the ghettos during World War II. Music and theater, pious niggunim, songs of religious tradition and transgression intertwine, creating a very original concert. The “Night of Freedom” premiered in May 2012 at the Small Festival of Jewish Culture, Le Scimmie – Milan and was presented at various festivals in Italy and abroad. The Stellerranti Ensemble consists of Cinzia Bauci (vocals), Pier Gallesi (accordion, piano), Lydia Cevidalli (violin), and Mauro Sabbione (piano). (Red)
