(11 April 2016) On Sunday April 10, “South and South” ‘s Canadian debut captivated the Toronto audience: over 5,000 people attended the all-Italian event starring an original trio. The eclectic Marisa Laurito, joined by international tenor Piero Mazzocchetti and American singer Charlie Cannon, performed accompanied by a large orchestra, in the prestigious Casino Rama Entertainment Center in Toronto. Inside this temple of North American music, an enthusiastic audience applauded and cheered with several standing ovations a great Laurito. Alongside Cannon, lead singer of The Platters, she performed, with irrepressible verve, a two-hour long musical marathon, filled with songs, jokes, poems and “macchiette, small traditional scenes, mostly Italian but influenced by the culture of the international South. Mazzocchetti, one of the very few Italian artists who has had the privilege to perform at Casino Rama three times over the past 5 years, also gave a thrilling performance. The “Maestro”, with his extremely powerful and melodic voice, performed the most famous arias of operas before moving into the “Crossover” genre by paying tribute to the unforgettable Domenico Modugno, “Mr. Volare”, in a duet with Marisa. A poignant performance of “Parlami d’amore Mariù” followed, accompanied by the presence on stage of popular Italian contemporary dancer Grazia Cundari. The show was created by international organizer Marco De Antoniis and backed by Lenny Lombardi, president of the CHIN Radio Tv International Canada, which sponsored the evening. It ended with great applause on the notes of a great classic, “O Pais do sole”, masterfully played by Marisa, Piero and Charlie. Next year, the show will land in other Canadian cities and in the United States. (Red)
