(May 16, 2016) Luciana Castellina has kept a diary between the ages of fourteen and eighteen recounting her political initiation: from July 25, 1943, in Riccione, the day her tennis match with her schoolmate Anna Maria Mussolini was interrupted because the daughter of the Duce had to escape (his father had just been arrested in Rome) until the day in which when she joined the Italian Communist Party. A journey recounted in “The Discovery of the World” (Nettetempo): the book will be the focus of the encounter with the author organised by the Italian Cultural Institute in Berlin on May 18, from 19:00 to 21:00. It is a volume that recounts the evolution a girl from Rome’s Parioli neighbourhood with eyes wide open to the world and its history: her first trips to Prague, post-war Paris, first companions, questions, rebellions, and the discoveries of a spirit impatient to take shape. This diary, revised and embellished, has maintained all its freshness and strength of her testimony to a piece of history crucial for the post-war generation. A good and revealing read, accompanied by unpublished photos. (Red)
