(24 May 2016) An Italian is the new head of the General Secretary of the European Federation of Geologists (Efg) based in Brussels: he is Gabriele Ponzoni, 48 from Bologna. “It is a prestigious assignment of great responsibility – said the Italian expert – that comes immediately after the Italian Congress of Geologists of Naples in which new challenges and roles for geologists in modern society and business activities have emerged. Strengthening EU relations with the various federations (which together account for more than 50,000 European geologists) right now in order to expand job opportunities for Italian geologists appears strategic for our sector.” The election of Ponzoni was greeted with enthusiasm by the Italian Federation of Italian geologists, led by Francis Peduto: “We are delighted with the election of Dr. Ponzoni because now it will be possible to define a decisive change in strategy at the European level. Our absolute main goal is to promote professional work by cutting into territorial actions and competences in different technical categories namely parliament and European institutions; we will start on a new path because what has been done so far has not produced results. ” (9Colonne)
