(2 June 2016) On the 23th and 24th June, “A journey through the history of the tarantella” a Society Arakne show Mediterranean will be performed as part of the World Music Festival of Tirana. The event is organized in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of the Albanian capital. The show – where six artists danced, sang and performed museic – begins with the oldest tarantella recited by actors-dancers taken from original popular sources, a repertory of touring companies that moved between Naples and Puglia in the seventeenth century. These are followed by the Tarante: the ‘pizzica taranta’ a medicine dance that originates from the ancient healing ritual of the tarantati; ‘Pizzica de core’ where couples danced in family celebrations; ‘Pizzica scherma’ that included knives. The journey will come to the present day, with ‘pizziche pizziche’ and tarantella of Puglia. (Red)
