(July 8, 2016) San Francisco celebrates Sicily, especially the island’s food. With ‘Amuri- sacred flavours of Sicily’, a documentary on food and regional histories between the sacred and profane, recounting and celebrating not only recipes but also rituals and customs rooted in the traditional popular culture. The film screening, presented by Fabrizia Lanza, will take place at the Italian Cultural Institute in San Francisco on July 26 at 18:30. Amuri, directed by Giacomo Costa, is a journey through the colourful cuisine of five religious festivals. This is a Sicily rarely seen by outsiders. A Sicily where the secret family recipes are closely guarded and then showed off at festivals, hands kneading bread at dawn, and the faces of the Sicilian agricultural way of life, is the focus of the camera. Amuri is an intimate portrait of the culinary and religious traditions at the heart of the Sicilian tradition. A journey through freshly and patiently kneaded cavatelli, street food sold during festivals in a swirl of images, smells, prayer, sacred and profane degustation. (Red)
