(December 30, 2016) Almost a century ago, in February 1918, the Lithuanian nation state was born from the ashes of the Tsarist Empire. The philosopher Stasys Šalkauskis described its creation as the latest phase of a centuries-old history, and now Andrea Griffante returns on that historical event with a book called “Between East and West. Stasys Šalkauskis and his idea of Lithuania”: the presentation of the book will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 6PM at the Italian Institute of Culture in Vilnius. Historically dominated by the alternate dominance over its body of cultural influences of the East and the West, Lithuania finally had the chance to begin a new era. In it, the Lithuanian nation would have reached full maturity and create their own civilization in osmotic relationship with its neighbors, taking a regional mediator role.
