(January 4, 2017) “This year Befana comes to Malta a bit later than usual … because she’s just back from Italy. She was so busy meeting all the Italian children that we had to give her a few more days to arrive in Malta”. The announcement comes from the Italian Institute of Culture in Valletta, that has scheduled for Tuesday, January 10 (5.30 PM) a special appointment to meet the old lady in person: her story, the traditions that go with her, the feast she represents. An occasion to discover what do we really celebrate on the Epiphany day? Many people simply associate January 6 just with this old lady called Befana. As a matter of fact, it is a celebration based on a very important religious feast, just like Christmas. “Are you ready to play with us? – is the final invite coming from the IIC, reassuring that: – Befana will be with us with lots of games and activities for children and adults. After the presentation there will be some treats and a toast to Befana. Then comes a precious advice to public from the IIC: “Don’t forget your socks! There might be some surprises!” The event is part of the series of meetings called “La Scatola Magica” with Anna Porcheddu from Malta University. (PO / red)
