Kassala. An important seminar “Empowering female journalists in health rights and occupational safety” was held in Kassala (Eastern Sudan), funded by the Italian Embassy and the Sudanese Development Cooperation (EU Delegate Cooperation), organised by UNESCO in collaboration with the Sudanese Journalists Union. The event saw 23 female journalists engaged in learning about personal and professional security measures in the field, health education, and more broadly, to have a greater awareness of the risks associated with the profession. The initiative is part of a series of Italian actions in Sudan to strengthen and develop of a more diverse and conscious press, particularly in the female field. As with previous activities, the excellent collaboration between Italian and UNESCO institutions is confirmed which will shortly be transferred into a new project funded by the Italian Cooperation – AICS Khartoum for the creation of a rural community radios in the eastern Sudanese states (Red Sea, Kassala, and Gedaref), areas of priority for Italian development cooperation.
