Dec. 7 – Professor Angelo Riccaboni, Dean at the University of Siena, was elected to the board of the International Association of Universities for the 2012-2016 mandate. The election was held in Puerto Rico, during the association’s annual conference, in which are represented universities from more than 120 countries around the world. “This is a clear recognition for our university – said the Dean – which now enters the governing bodies of Higher Education international institutions, something that has always been in line with its international innate vocation.” The International Association of Universities is the highest international representation of universities. It was founded in 1950 and is part of UNESCO; it works in collaboration with institutions active in the field of higher education and seeks to promote through teaching and research the principles of peace and justice, human dignity and solidarity. Through international cooperation, it contributes to the strengthening of higher education in the world. In the past, Professor Pier Ugo Calzolari, Rector of the University of Bologna, who died last October, was a member of the board.
