Aug. 20 – “Building restoration is a methodological moment in works of art, in their physicality, in their double identity as aesthetics pieces and historical ones, in their path to the future.” These are words by Cesare Brandi, Tuscan art critic, in his definition of Italian restoration. The latter in Italy has become an art, and now a delegation from the International Center for the Restoration of the Architectural Heritage at the University of Jiao Tong in Shanghai has come to the University of Bologna with an interesting proposal. The Chinese insitution is interested in beginning an official collaboration on the theme of heritage protection and preservation with the Alma Heritage Science Integrated Research Team of the University of Bologna. In the padt days, as the University makes known in its website, Andrea Nanetti of the JaoTong University has accompanied a faculty representation formed by Yongkang Cao, director of the Chinese International Center, entrepreneurs in the building sector and white collars in a European tour of restoration centers. After the Acropoli Museum, the Vatican Museum and the Hard Stones Museum in Florence, the delegation stopped at the Alma Mater, where it participated in a workshop on “Heritage Building Conservation: Methods and Techniques.” It emerged from the encounter that China is yet to adopt the latest approach in terms of preservation and restoration of its cultural hertige, and the Alma Heritage Science’s contibution in this field could be important. The Chinese delegation recognized Italy’s competences in the field and declared itself interested in an interdisciplinary partnership wi engineers, chemists, constructors, architects and restorators, who must work together to identify models and standards that are easily adoptable in China and elsewhere in the world, through start-ups exploiting the results of joint research.
