Mar. 20 – March 25 is an important date for Portugal, which will honor writer Antonio Tabucci two years after his death. Born in Italy, but “adopted” by the Portuguese, Tabucchi was bound by a deep love for Portugal and especially for Lisbon, where two years ago, on March 25, 2012, he died. In his last will and testament, Tabucci asked that his ashes be kept in the Dos Prazeres cemetery in the Portuguese capital. The writer now rests in the writers’ chapel. In Lisbon, Tabucchi will be remembered with an event organized by the Italian Institute of Culture next Tuesday, in the auditorium at 7pm. During the occasion, the ICC will reveal Tabucci’s “last” story, remained unpublished for many years, “Isabella and the shadow” (Victory Iguazu Editora). University of Coimbra Professor of Italian Clelia Bettini, the publisher Riccardo Greco, and illustrator Isabella Staino, to whom the story is dedicated, will attend the event.
