Oct. 20 – Italian cinema is preparing to invade Latin America this year. For the 30th edition of the Festival of Guadalajara (March 6-15), the ICE Agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalization of Italian companies has partnered up with the Luce Cinecittà Institute and Anica. Together, under the brand “Italia in America Latina,” the three institutions will organize and coordinate a project for the promotion of Italian cinema abroad. The campaign was made possible thanks to Mibact and the Ministry of Economic Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The project will offer 30 recent Italian productions as a Special Focus section during the Festival, which this year sees Italy as guest of honor. The film will be accompanied by a large art delegation. “At the same time – reads a note from the Istituto Luce Cinecittà – the large Italian stand within the festival’s market space will host meetings and business initiatives. Also, various events will promote Italy’s excellence and uniqueness across the Festival and the city, as indicated by the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Mario Giro last November after visiting Mexico and signing the collaboration agreement.” The initiative expressed “the close collaboration of public and private entities, each bringing to the group their specificity and financial and human resources, as indicated by the Deputy Minister of Economic Development Carlo Calenda, with the support of the Mibact Cinema Director General Nicola Borrelli, implemented by ICE Agency President Riccardo Monti, the Luce Cinecittà Institute President Roberto Cicutto, and Anica President Riccardo Tozzi.” The process will involve all other actors in the sector: Unefa (Italian film distributors abroad), Film Commission, Agpci (Young filmmakers and producers), Apt (television producers), Doc/it (Italian documentary-makers), Cartoon Italia (animation producers) and technical companies.
