Finally, “Historic rural landscapes” presents the partial results of a research project funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies which involved 80 researchers, 14 universities and international institutions, with the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, UNESCO and the Council of Europe. The project has selected 123 rural landscapes of all the Italian regions to define their historical origin, their integrity, their weaknesses. Within the research the rural landscape is considered as the result of integration, in space and time, of economic, social and environmental factors, a complex “resource”, of which farmers are the main characters.
