Beirut. Italy has approved an emergency volunteer contribution towards UNHCR of €2 million to support the hygiene-sanitary sectors in Lebanon and Jordan. The contribution will be divided in two installments of €1 million for Lebanon and Jordan respectively. In Lebanon, these will be used to improve sanitary conditions. Thanks to the funding from Italy, approximately 25,000 Syrian refugees currently residing in informal camps will be able to benefit from the improvement of solid waste management and waste water recycling systems. In Jordan, the Italian contribution will also favour the sanitary sector, supporting the UNHCR’s “Cash for Health”. Thanks to the Italian contribution, hospital costs incurred by Syrian refugees in accessing healthcare will be covered and reimbursed. (9colonne)
