Anita, a young women from Hungary who survived Auschwitz, is received by her only living relative, Monika, her father’s sister who refuses to be called ‘aunt’ and who sees her neice as a burden. In Zvikovez, among the Czechoslovakian mountains not too far from Prage, Monika lives with her husband Aron, their son Roby and Aron’s brother- the young and attractive Eli. In the village situated in the Sudetes, territories that were previously occupied by Germans, Nazis are being deported and those who escaped to holocaust replace them, in an increasingly tense environment with the advent of communism. Anita is surrounded by men and women who want to forget the past, dance, listen to American songs transmitted from across the iron curtain from Voice of America.
