Oct. 16 – “We make Aglianico in the hills, on a small territory from Acerenza a Rionero to Melfi. It grows on a modest vine, arranged in rows that produce pine cone black grapes,” says journalist and writer from Basilicata Raffaele Nigro about Aglianico: a wine produced in the Vulture area, in the province of Potenza. With more than 1,500 acres of vineyards and registered as a DOC wines, Aglianico del Vulture is counted among the greatest Italian red wines. It is often called the “Barolo of the South,” as it has common traits with the Piedmont vine, and it is getting ready to conquer Londoners. The Cantina del Vulture of Rionero will represent the Basilicata region at ” Welcome Italia,” the only UK show dedicated exclusively to the Italian agri-food sector and territory. The initiative is part of the project Siaft – South Italy Food and Tourism – sponsored by the local Chambers of Commerce, including that of Potenza. The event is scheduled for October 18-20 in the center of the British capital, at the Royal Horticultural Halls, a short walk from Victoria Station. “It’s a pleasure and an honor to know that the Aglianico del Vulture, one of the leading products of Basilicata’s food and wine industry, is among the excellence of Southern Italian food to be presented in the UK – says the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Potenza, Pasquale Lamorte, who adds: – it’s a difficult and complex market for its characterizing multi-ethnicity, but the London and broader UK markets are full of opportunities for Basilicata products.”
