July 16 – Formulas and strategies for managing contentious movements, of a political, military, or social nature, exist. And there are some formulas that, inspired by the principles of the UN charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, can be exported and adapted. Today, China learns to “study” the peaceful conflict management in Italy, thanks to the role played by the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa. Andrea de Guttry, professor of international law, tomorrow will be the keynote speaker at the municipality of Beijing, strong of his numerous experiences abroad and thanks to his consolidated international reputation. The new mission in the East is part of the collaboration between Beijing and some of the best-known international universities in the West, and with the UN. Beijing’s Municipality asks for theoretical references and operational guidance on the causes, dynamics and strategies to manage social conflicts. In this context, Andrea de Guttry’s keynote address will be introduced by Zonglin Zhang, deputy director of the municipality’s office, in charge of receiving complaints and investigating the causes of “public and individual complaints.” “This – explains de Guttry – marks a new step in the democratic process undertaken by the Chinese authorities and bears witnesses to the openness and willingness to change so as to strengthen the Chinese role in the global scenario.”
