Feb. 18 – “The scope of potential in the use of drones in SAR and civil protection activities is particularly interesting, because it allows to cut time and costs while gathering an accurate picture of the area affected by the emergency, without jeopardizing the life of operators. Furthermore, the activation of such a complex system at a national scale will be an important forerunner for future projects that include the use of drones by other large institutions and public organizations,” comments Luciano Castro, President of the Rome Drone Conference. Castro will give a talk at the conference on “Drones and security” which will take place on February 24 at the Frentani Convention Center (via Frentani 4 – 9am-4pm). The meeting will see the participation of the Italian Red Cross. The drones will be used by the humanitarian organization for searcg and rescue activities in case of disasters and catastrophes both in Italy and abroad, under the “SAPR Project.” The pilot project took place last year in Bologna, and now the first Italian Red Cross units will be equipped with Remote Steering Aircraft Systems (Sistemi Aeromobili a Pilotaggio Remoto in Italian – SAPR). “SAPR” will be officially presented at the conference on “Drones and security,” which will see the participation of National Red Cross President Francesco Rocca, as well as representatives from the Civil Protection Service, the police and armed forces. Several specialized Italian companies will also attend to illustrate drones and sensors for rescue activities, security and defense.
