14 August, 2015 – The Barber of Seville close the Italian Week of Montréal on August 16. The Festival, which began on August 7, brought the culture and flavors of Italy to Canada. And like every year it will end with the presentation of an outdoor opera. This year it’s up to Gioacchino Rossini to wake up Little Italy. “It’s a pleasure to organize an event of this magnitude. The outdoor opera of the Italian Week offers a kind of art that is not always accessible to everyone,” said artistic director Salvatore Sciascia. The Barber of Seville will be staged on Sunday at 9pm at Loto-Quebec, along the Saint-Laurent Boulevard, on the corner with rue Saint-Zotique (in case of rain, the opera will be presented at the Church of Defense). Conducting the Symphony Orchestra of the Italian Week will be Maestro Gianluca Martinenghi. The soprano Raphaelle Paquette will play the role of Rosina, tenor Antonio Figueroa that of Count Almaviva, and baritone Cosimo Elisha will be Figaro. (Cle)
