(25 February 2016) The Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney inaugurates the second cycle of the season “Viva Rossini! 2016” with The Barber of Seville. This year, the cycle will also include five films by the Rossini Opera Festival (ROF) in Pesaro. After last year’s success, the Institute renewed its collaboration with the Rossini festival, which since 1980 helps spread the works of the Italian composer, even those less known and represented. The Rossini Opera Festival is held every year in August in Pesaro, birthplace of Gioachino Rossini, proposing his works in a unique setting, which allows the collaboration of scholars, artists and the public. The five films presented at the “Viva Rossini! 2016” offers an unusual program for Australia, with comic operas, half-serious and serious, some very well known as The Barber of Seville (in concert form), and others forgotten – Ciro in Babilonia and Signor Bruschino. Also featured are Aureliano in Palmira, known in particular for the opera symphony, and Matilde di Shabran, a playful melodrama in two acts. The cycle starts on March 4 with The Barber of Seville at the headquarters of the Institute. (Red)
