(22 March 2016) Easter is approaching and with it the rites and symbols, sacred traditions and folklore performances typical of different countries and regions. A photographic exhibition at the Italian Cultural Institute of Malta explores the different ways Easter is celebrating in the countries bordering the Mediterranean, highlighting features and peculiarities, as Mediterranean countries share stories and cultural traditions. Easter, the greatest feast of Catholicism, is an example of how these traditions, over the centuries, moved and assimilated original features from neighboring countries. In particular, Maltese islands, southern Italy and Spain absorbed and exchanged a lot of influences from each other. Maltese photographer Ken Scicluna decided to use his lens to highlight this shared cultural heritage. The result is a fascinating reportage, a show full of color and curiosity that opens today at the headquarters of the Italian Cultural Institute in Valletta. (9Colonne)
