Beijing. By the end of 2017, Asiago DOP will get full recognition and protection in China. This is the important achievement recent days for the EU-China Economic Summit included in the bilateral agreement on cooperation and protection of geographical indications launched in 2010. The first step in this process is the formal publication of the lists of the 100 Italian products and 100 Chinese products that will be protected once the agreement has entered into force. Thanks to the Protection Consortium, Asiago DOP is now part of the list. China’s dairy imports are steadily growing. In 2016, they hit 2.28 million tonnes, with a 20% increase in volume over the previous year. In terms of consumption, Chinese cheese imports have grown 18% from January to April 2017, while Italian cheese exports rose by 35% (data from CLAL.it). (9Colonne)
