July 9, 2015 – “Education is a matter of the heart” used to say Don Bosco – founder of the Salesian congregation and the congregation of the Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice, beatified in 1929 and canonized in 1934. The “father and teacher of youths,” as was stated by Pope John Paul II, has given birth to a widespread and active reality that throughout the world is known as the Salesian Family, comprising 30 officially recognized groups with over 400,000 members involved in the daily care and the education of boys and girls, with special attention to the most disadvantaged, promoting the values that allow them to mature as people and responsible citizens. Don Bosco Day – which is celebrated Sunday, July 12 – is a specil event that Expo wanted to celebrate with the Salesian Family, highlighting the purpose and meaning related to its presence in the world. The Pavilion Casa Don Bosco is a house with a porch and a gable roof, entirely constructed taking into account the principle of environmental sustainability: in it, Expo Milan’s main theme has been reformulated, becoming “Educating young people, energy for life”. But even with the end of the Universal Exhibition in Milan, Casa Don Bosco will continue to exist: it will be dismantled and transported to Ukraine, where it will remain permanently as home, school and training center for young people.
